The NISSBC is the new pinnacle event of the sport for secondary schools in the North Island, and as the sport grows will evolve into the national championship, set to take place every year across the country to decide New Zealand's top baseball school.
Auckland schools - Botany Downs Secondary College, Glendowie College, Glenfield College, One Tree Hill College, and St. Kentigern College - make up the bulk of the teams at the NISSBC, and are joined by Cambridge High School.
Tuesday saw the first pitch of the tournament thrown out as One Tree Hill College took on St Kentigern College, with SKC taking out a great opening game to the tournament 7-5.
Recent Baltimore Orioles signee Pita Rona featured in Game 2 which saw the battle of the Glen's, as Glendowie faced Glenfield, with Rona and the Glenfield team from the North Shore dominating the game 10-1.
Game 3 saw Botany Downs take out Cambridge High 9-3 despite Matt Van Sant going 2-4 at the plate.
St. Kentigern, Glenfield, and Botany Downs continued their winning ways in their second games, and remain unbeaten after day 1 of the championships.
Day 2 begins Wednesday when two of the undefeated teams go head to head as Botany Downs take on Glenfield College.
The semi finals are scheduled to take place on Thursday, with the NISSBC Finals on Friday.
A NISS All Tournament team and MVP will be named at the conclusion of the tournament.
