Baseball New Zealand will be sending a National under-16 Development Squad to the Queensland State Championships, during the September school holidays - held 28-30 September 2012 - marking the third successive year New Zealand has sent an age grade development team to the Queensland State Championships.

This development team ensures that many of the nation's top 15U players will face high level competition in 2012, after the Baseball New Zealand Board was forced to withdraw the New Zealand team from the inaugural IBAF 15U World Championships held in Mexico due to the continued high level of drug cartel violence, and our government's severe travel advisory to northern Mexico.

The Manager of the team will be former Toronto Blue Jay and current Director of Player and Coach Development for Baseball New Zealand, Scott Campbell, who will choose 16-18 players for the Development team.

Campbell will begin identifying players this weekend in Auckland, and will also make his way around the nation in the coming months to ensure that players from various corners of the nation have a chance to be identified and make this national development team.

To assist Campbell, the team Executive Officer, Chris Akroyd, will assist the coaching staff with all equipment needs, liaise with tournament organizers, among other responsibilities.

Baseball New Zealand is now officially accepting CVs and letters of interest from coaching candidates interested in working alongside Campbell to assist this young group of developing ballplayers as they prepare for this Queensland tournament. Two additional coaches to assist Campbell will be selected.
