After a long day of travelling and finally getting into hotel rooms at 4:00am on Sunday morning, the team was up at 8:00am for breakfast and on their way to the field by 9:00am for an 11:00am game.

Tour Game 1 IBAC White (CA)

Arizona Fall Invitational

W 8-0

The first game of the double header was played at the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners Spring Training facility – the Peoria Sports Complex -  in Peoria, Arizona against the International Baseball Academy - White (IBAC White) from Sacramento, California.

Right hander Sean Akroyd took the mound and was the winning pitcher in a dominant 8-0 victory.

Akroyd started the first game of the NZ team tour pitching 3 innings (23 pitches: 17 strikes, 6 balls), giving up two hits, with no walks and no strikeouts.

In the first, Akroyd got the leadoff batter to hit a slow roller down the third base foul line, and chased it doen for the 1-3 putout. After giving up a hit, he got the next batter to hit into a 1-4-3 double play.

Akroyd was backed up on the mound by Mackenzie Quarterman who pitched the 4th. Quarterman gave up a hit and a walk before getting three infield outs. The game was closed out by Ben Thompson.

The NZ team scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning, with Tailah Love, Vinny Harris, and Luke Hansen having strong days with the bat. Vincent Harris hit an RBI double, Taliah Love then hit a 2 RBI double, Nick Koh got an RBI hit, Dewald de Klerk got a 2 RBI double, and then Jerome Raemaki got an RBI hit. Tour Game 2 - Nutty Buddy (AZ)

Arizona Fall Invitational

W 3-1

Game two was much tighter. Playing a composite team from Phoenix, Arizona – Nutty Buddy – Team New Zealand was spearheaded on the mound by Joe Boyce, who also picked up the win, in a 3-1 victory. In his outing, Boyce gave up a hit. This was followed by two fielding errors, loading the bases. Boyce walked in the only run scored by Nutty Buddy, before getting a strikeout to end the inning. The fielding and catching was tight, with a few errors, but the pitchers attacked the zone with no wild pitches thrown. The defensive effort was punctuated by an outstanding diving catch from right fielder Kohei Ueha.

On the offensive side Dewald De Klerk, Jerome Raemaki and Cooper Hutchinson led the way. Jerome Raemaki tied it up with an RBI, driving in Cooper Hutchinson. NZL then got runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to win 3-1. Matt Boyce pitched 2 innings. Reede Fowler threw a clean inning, and Mackenzie Quarterman closing the game, picking up the save.

At the end of day team New Zealand played extremely well in producing a great team effort.
