18U Arizona Tour 2013 - Game 8
Tour Game 8 – Baseball Northwest Washington Navy (Seattle, WA)
AZ Fall Classic Game 4
10 innings played
Offensively, Vinny Harris collected the team’s first hit in the second inning, and Scott Drinkwater roped a double in the 4th.
The team’s bats came alive in the 8th inning with three straight hits - another double for hot hitting Cooper Hutchinson, followed up by singles to Iranui Holthausen and Quinten Niu, who drove in Hutchinson.
Defensively, the highlight of the day was Cooper's great catch and throw to the plate in the 6th inning, taking the catch in right field and then throwing out the runner at home.
Sam Hollings started the game and gave up only one run in two innings, followed by Reede Fowler, who gave up an unearned run. Both Hollings and Fowler dealt with sore arms today and had to be removed early.
Sean Akroyd followed Fowler and he gave up 2 runs on 2 walks and 2 hits, but the Junior Diamondblacks helped get Akroyd out of the inning with a nice 1-6-3 double play. Akroyd then pitched two solid innings giving up only 1 hit, no walks and no runs.
Matt Boyce started the 7th, but after a walk, an error and 2 hit batters he came out for Joe Boyce who quickly give up a hit, but then struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Veteran right hander Joe Boyce was the star on the mound, pitching 4 innings giving up 4 hits, 1 walk and 0 runs with 4 strikeouts.
A tough afternoon game is up next against the Kansas City Royals Scout Team. Former Pittsburgh Pirates trainer Erwin Valencia has flown in from Florida and is now working with the players who have tired arms and getting them ready for the next three days of competition.
