International competition- NZ World Baseball Classic team will compete for the first time in 2012
- New Zealand is not a ranked country in the IBAF world standings. It is the only country to have a team in the World Baseball Classic without being ranked internationally
- Baseball is truly an International sport - the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) has more than 119 national affiliates.
Baseball in New Zealand
- Baseball New Zealand's 2011 membership comprises:
- 5 Regions (Member Regions)
- 4 Baseball Associations
- 12 Clubs
- More than 4,000 individual members who play, coach, officiate and support Baseball in New Zealand
- Recent research on the membership base of Baseball in New Zealand revealed:
- 10% of participants are female
- The age of participants ranged from 4-49 years
- More than estimated 2,000 boys and girls participate in Baseball at school
- There are 20 primary school Baseball teams and 20 secondary school teams
- 80% of participants perform volunteer duties in Baseball
- Baseball is the fastest growing summer team sport in New Zealand.
Governance and management
- The Baseball New Zealand Constitution was adopted in September 2009
- Baseball New Zealand became an Incorporated Society on 15 October 2007
- The Board meets a minimum of 6 times a year, usually in Auckland.
